Chasing Shadows

Chasing Shadows

Mastering the American landscape has been a lifelong pursuit for me.

The bigness of the landscape with its expansive vistas has had Dale Laitinen painting the optimistic promise of its open space. It is not the getting there that counts, but it is the act of painting in the moment that is important. A painter of over fifty years experience, and an instructor for over thirty; he has been teaching water-media workshops helping aspiring artists to do just that.

Your are invited to join him on the road to a visual exploration of the American landscape.

The sight of canyons, arroyos, and Mesas sends one’s heart racing. Painting such landscapes will reward the eyes and challenge your paintbrush to bring it to life in watermedia.

Employing watercolor on an Aquabord substrate I will demonstrate techniques I have found useful in creating paintings that meld both abstract shapes with those that describe distant vistas with formations that ignite the the imagination.

Flat brushes, and rounds plus the use of tools that lift and smear the pigment in exquisite ways the limitless vistas of the Great Southwest will uplift our spirit.
